戚維義

戚維義 1937-2019

國立臺灣師範大學美術系、美國艾倫哈特藝術學院碩士畢業,聖路易華盛頓大學藝術考古系博士班研究,曾旅美長達16 年,精通中西方藝術表現,1999 年開始彩瓷創作。

創作上勇於嘗試各種表現與思潮,為傳統注入新生命力。長期以荷塘水鴨為主題,時而如行雲流水、時而氣勢磅礡,構圖筆力簡繁之間,蘊藏了深邃的情感與生命力。

特別是在瓷畫技巧上,釉彩在其快速運筆下,暈染層疊的溫潤與豐盈,更顯雋永。

 

1999年間,戚維義常往鶯歌跑,除了因病休養期間,13年來,他在“臺華窯”繪製陶藝作品,從不間斷;2000年921賑災義賣,應中研院之邀,繪製巨幅“心蓮萬蕊圖”,由李遠哲院長親自主持贈畫儀式。

此外,恣意流暢的創作才情,貫穿在戚維義的每一幅精心畫作裏,從早年的中國繪畫創作主力,到留美返國後將東西繪畫精神完美交融于一體,使用媒材更廣泛觸及水彩、油畫、壓克力等,深刻開展出靜觀自得水墨風格,與磅礡雋永的筆觸;其畫作當中,偶會以詼諧的筆觸呼應主題,他認為,繪畫固然是一種藝術的表現,但嚴肅之外有時帶點幽默,亦是一種反映人生百態的技法之一。

 

Born in 1937, Chi Wei-Yi attended the Department of Fine Art at National Taiwan University and later received a Master of Arts from Allen R. Hart Art Institute in the US and studied for a Ph.D. in the Department of Archaeology at the Washington University in St. Louis. Chi lived in the US for 16 years and became adept at both Chinese and Western artistic expressionism, before embracing porcelain painting in 1999. Throughout his artistic career Chi has courageously experimented with a wide range of expressionist approaches and ideas, which he has used to imbue tradition with greater vitality. For many years one of his main motifs has been lotus ponds and ducks, creating scenes that sometimes have a natural and flowing style, but on others are magnificent and imposing. Indeed, within the complexity and simplicity of the artist’s structure and powerful brushwork one finds an impressive depth of emotion and life energy. This is particularly evident in Chi Wei-Yi’s porcelain painting technique, wherein his rapid brush strokes ensures the warmth and richness of the glaze colors accumulate and are even more though-provoking.
