Hsiao Chin-Hsing
Hsiao Chin-Hsing was born in 1953, graduated from the College of Art at National Academy of Arts and later obtained a Master of Arts Degree from National Taiwan University of Arts. He is also a recipient of the prestigious “ROC Military Art and Culture Golden Statue Award” and placed first in Chinese Painting at the 10th National Art Exhibition. Hsiao is particularly adept at richly colorful ink landscape paintings, honing his craft by visiting mountains across Taiwan and experimenting with Eastern/Western colored pigments so as to faithfully depict the wonderful colors of local scenery. Indeed, the mountains and rivers in his paintings are so grand and imposing that it has been said: “When his brush descends it rouses the wind and rain, a poem that completed moves the gods and spirits to tears.” In the early 1990’s, Hsiao began to produce ceramic art and introduced several innovations to the field of decorative ceramics. His approach captured the majesty of mountain vistas while experimenting with different glazes to express the richness of Western scenic depictions. As a result, Hsiao’s works are simultaneously imbued with a deeply appealing classic beauty and a sense of freshness.
